I Write Sins Not (Time) Strategies

TIME FOR SOME UNDESERVED BUT NECESSARY FREE-FORM CREATIVE PROCRASTINATION by Topher McCulloch. Found on Flickr.

In the immortal words of Buffy Summers, this semester "I'm a busy beaver" (Season 4 Episode 16). And to help mitigate and further my work output and prepare for the dreaded LIFE AFTER COLLEGE, I'm going to need to work on and confront my time management.

During my college career, the hardest thing for me to do was just start something. A paper, or a report. Really anything that inclosed writing. Don't get me wrong, I would have all the research done and the paper outlined weeks before. But that step of actually writing someone in a word document, That's what I just couldn't bring myself to do. To be honest, I still have that.

Take this blog post for example. I read the article and outlined what I wanted to say days ago, but what did I do. Not write it, that's for sure. Instead, I did laundry, cleaned my apartment, made dinner, changed my sheets- and I hate doing that- along with reading book for another class. Basically, I did everything I could before I did this.

I read 4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination by Peter Banerjea, How to Beat Procrastination by Caroline Webb, and The Important Habit of Just Starting by Jory Mackay for this post. Now they basically said the same things that I have known for years- You have to start if you want to do something. Break things down into smaller, easier components. And find incentives to drive you. For this post I am using written? Kitten! to both track my word count and provided adorable pictures upon each 100 words. It seems to be helping. For the rest of the semester, I plan to block out my time in my planner and follow it accordingly. That usually helps, but the now I ordered for the new year hasn't come it yet. Get on it USPS.

This semester, I just need to keep up the strategies I have developed over the last four years and mainly JUST START. because once I have that first sentence or paragraph, I can complete a 30 page paper in two days.

Author's note: The title come from the Panic at the Disco classic song "I Write Sins Not Tragedies"
