Burn After Reading (Notes): Fate

Fate
There is a king with one son. The son is loved by every princess. The king wants him to marry one of these princesses. The prince doe not want to be married to that princess. The prince wants to go off to find fortune and asks for three bags of money. He set out on his quest. He meets a disguised angel on the road. The angel asks what he wants. He wants to know his fate. The angel shows him to a castle where he will learn his fate. He sets out to the castle. He gets there and starts searching tough the papers on the ground for his fate. A man comes out of the castle to ask him what he is doing. The man tells him his fate is within, hw was looking in the common folks fates. They go inside and he sees his fate- to marry a weaver daughter who has been sick for nine years. The prince decides to change his fate and goes to find the weaver's daughter. He travels through the forest when night falls and a hut gives him shelter for the night. They say they can't meet the level of care for his rank but will give him his best. He realizes there is someone in the other room and asks who it is. He's at the weaver's house and the daughter is in the other room. The prince toys to think of a way to sidestep his fate. He kills her in the night- stabbing her with a dagger before leaving leaving money behind. He goes home and tells his father of his horrible fate and the father was angry but comforted his son all the while.The sone goes out to hunt again and comes across a beautiful maiden in the woods. He goes up to her and asks her to marry him. She says yes and they head off to the palace. The king is overjoyed and makes preparations for the wedding. The girl is the same as the one he tried to kill all that time ago- th weaver's daughter. He confesses to her.
